Alabama sends two home from bowl

MIAMI -- Alabama sent two players home on Friday night for a violation of team rules.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed to ESPN that the suspended players are freshman linebackers Dillon Lee and Ryan Anderson, who weren't expected to play much of a role for the No. 2 Crimson Tide in Monday night's Discover BCS National Championship against No. 1 Notre Dame at Sun Life Stadium.

Alabama officials confirmed two players were sent back to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Friday, but wouldn't reveal their identities. Al.com earlier reported the suspensions.

"We sent home two players due to a curfew violation," Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said in a statement.

Anderson, from Daphne, Ala., hadn't played in a game for Alabama this season and likely will redshirt.

Lee, from Buford, Ga., played in eight games, primarily on kickoff coverage, and had eight total tackles. Lee intercepted a pass in the season opener against Michigan but has since seen his play steadily decline.
