Big Ten signs 2 Dallas-area bowls

The Big Ten has extended its relationship with the Heart of Dallas Bowl and added the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth to its future bowl lineup.

Big Ten teams will appear in the two games on a rotational basis after each season from 2014 to 2019. A Big Ten team will play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl after the 2013 season and face an opponent from Conference USA.

Future Big Ten opponents for both bowls have yet to be announced.

The Dallas-area bowls are expected to complete the Big Ten's bowl lineup for the 2014 season and beyond.

Big Ten teams also will appear in the Capital One, Outback, Holiday, Kraft Fight Hunger and Pinstripe Bowls, in addition to a new Detroit bowl administered by the NFL's Detroit Lions. The Gator Bowl and Music City Bowl will feature a Big Ten team on a rotational basis, much like the Heart of Dallas Bowl and Armed Forces Bowl.

The Big Ten maintains its annual relationship with the Rose Bowl and will have teams in the Orange Bowl at least three times after the seasons from 2014 to 2025. Big Ten teams have appeared in at least one Texas bowl since the 1995 season.

The Big Ten has been affiliated with the Heart of Dallas Bowl (formerly TicketCity) since 2010 and also will appear in the Texas Bowl in Houston this season before cutting ties with the game.
