FPI: Knights hold edge over Owls

UCF is one of four remaining unbeaten FBS teams (Alabama, Miami, Wisconsin) and, according to FPI, has the best chance among those teams to enter the bowl season undefeated (49 percent). The Knights' nine-game winning streak is tied for their longest since joining the FBS in 1996.

UCF is undefeated but No. 18 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Coach Scott Frost was asked Thursday whether he thought the committee had even watched UCF play. "I'm not going to say much about that," Frost said. "We just have to take care of our business. Any time it becomes people's opinions, I think it gets a little dangerous. I wouldn't complain for us. The teams I feel bad for are the Wisconsins and Miamis. As a football player, all you can do is beat the people they put in front of you. If you're undefeated, that's undefeated and that means a lot. I hate to see people's opinions have more emphasis put on them than the record on the field. But from our standpoint, we just have to take care of business and a lot of good things are headed our way."

The search for the Civil ConFLiCT trophy

The last time anyone saw college football's least-loved trophy, it was sitting by itself, in the rain, at UConn, abandoned by its "winners" at UCF. Since then, the creator of the trophy, Bob Diaco, has been fired by UConn and the trophy is still missing.

Wisconsin-Oklahoma headlines projected New Year's Six slate

As it currently stands, the Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12 aren't represented in the College Football Playoff's top four teams, but schools from each conference are projected to make a New Year's Six bowl game. Meanwhile, undefeated UCF is predicted to earn the Group of 5 bid.

Heather Dinich ESPN Senior Writer

The CFP selection committee's second ranking of the season was status quo at the top, with No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Oklahoma. Here's what's new: No. 8 Wisconsin is now the Big Ten's highest-ranked team, but the undefeated Badgers are now looking up at No. 7 and undefeated Miami. It's clear the committee rewarded the Canes for a ranked win over No. 17 Virginia Tech. With six Big Ten teams ranked - including No. 20 Iowa and No. 25 Northwestern - the Badgers' strength of schedule just got a much-needed boost. At No. 10 Auburn is highest two-loss team, and at No. 18 UCF remains in the lead to represent the Group of 5 in a New Year's Six bowl.

Miami made a CFP statement beating Virginia Tech and impressed some top talent. It could be a good couple of weeks with Notre Dame coming to town and another big chance for the Canes.
