At the end of three quarters, Iowa State is out-gaining West Virginia 359-154. West Virginia has punted eight times. It has one offensive score. Will Grier has 98 passing yards, only 21 in the third quarter. And yet West Virginia still trails by just six points.

Iowa State's special teams miscues continue to keep West Virginia in this game. A 46-yard field goal attempt falls short to end a promising Cyclones drive. Will Grier and West Virginia need to do something soon. Only 120 yards to start this possession

Iowa State dominated West Virginia but leads only 20-14 at halftime because of two special teams mistakes (missed PAT, field goal blocked and returned for touchdown). The Cyclones triple threat of QB Brock Purdy, RB David Montgomery and WR Hakeem Butler all shined, and Jon Heacock's defense recorded five sacks against Heisman Trophy contender Will Grier. West Virginia's run game struggled (2.1 ypc) and Grier and his talented receivers were unable to stretch the field.

Iowa State's Brock Purdy has recovered very well from his early interception, settling into a nice rhythm against West Virginia. The true freshman went 4-for-4 on that touchdown drive, twice targeting Hakeem Butler and finding Charlie Kolar for a 19-yard score. The Cyclones are outgunning WVU 191-88 and have sacked Will Grier three times.

After missing last week's win at Oklahoma State, Iowa State star running back David Montgomery has announced himself tonight. Montgomery's 37-yard run -- his longest rush of the season by 16 yards -- sets up a game-tying touchdown pass from Brock Purdy to Hakeem Butler. Very nice response by the Cyclones offense.

Grier finds Stills for TD (0:34)

Iowa State's Brock Purdy looked like a freshman, as he stared down his receiver, allowing West Virginia's Dravon Askew-Henry to make an easy interception. West Virginia is finding some running room early on, as the Mountaineers already have rushes of 26 and 16 yards. Will Grier caps the drive with a beautiful throw to David Sills in the corner of the end zone.
