Via @ESPNStatsInfo: Luke Maye is the first UNC player with 100 points and 50 rebounds in the team's first five games since Antawn Jamison in 1996-97.

Four of North Carolina's last five possessions: • Luke Maye layup • Luke Maye jumper • Luke Maye 3-pointer • Garrison Brooks layup, assisted by Luke Maye

Arkansas really missed Daniel Gafford in its halfcourt offense. Two fouls in three minutes. Razorbacks' offense hits another gear when Gafford is getting consistent touches inside. Can score himself or open things up for the guards.

Joel Berry II (2-for-7) can't buy a bucket, but Tar Heels enter the break in control of the game with a double-digit lead. The Tar Heels are just forcing Arkansas into a lot of isolation situations. Razorbacks failing to make the extra pass. Got selfish down the stretch. Have to come out strong after halftime.

Casual 14 and 10 halftime line for Luke Maye. Already his third double-double of the season.

This might be the most balanced matchup of the day. Both Arkansas and North Carolina are led by senior wings. Played a thriller in last year's NCAA tournament. Both entered the game hot, shooting around 40 percent from the 3-point line. This matchup won't warrant the Texas-Duke hype, but it might be a better game.

Arkansas' defense is swarming against North Carolina early. Three blocks and two steals in four-plus minutes, Carolina 0-for-8 from the field.

Maye leads No. 9 North Carolina past Portland (0:34)

At ACC media day, Roy Williams said North Carolina's Luke Maye had to be more assertive this season. Played well against Portland. Will face more athleticism and length against the Arkansas/Oklahoma winner Friday.

This Tar Heels squad is much different from last year's group. Obviously. But I think their versatility will carry them into the ACC's top tier. Definitely want to see how they look once Cam Johnson returns.

Berry throws alley-oop to Williams for layup (0:24)

Theo Pinson worked on his perimeter game in the offseason. That's great. But this is who he is. He's best when he attacks and plays aggressive inside. He fell in love with the 3-pointer in some of his first games this year. But the Tar Heels need Pinson to just go to work and make plays around the basket.

Myron Medcalf ESPN Staff Writer

Portland not intimidated by North Carolina. Pilots fighting for loose balls and rebounds. Surprised by how physical Terry Porter's team is at the start of this game. But they have to play that way all game to have a chance.

No surprise North Carolina downs top dogs

When it comes to taking down AP top-2 teams, the Tar Heels know a thing or two. North Carolina could have a chance to add another to the list in February when it faces Duke, currently ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25.
