West Virginia went over five minutes without a basket late in the second half, yet Bob Huggins' team managed to survive at home against Baylor, 57-54. With Texas Tech having lost tonight at Oklahoma, the Mountaineers are in sole possession of first place in the Big 12. For now.

Baylor over Texas 69-60 in Waco. 3 in double figures for the Bears. Former Espn 100 Mark Vital chips in with high energy, 10 points and 7 rebounds. Vital red shirted and developed while sitting out last season. More players should consider that path.

Crucial win for Baylor over Texas. Started 0-2 in the Big 12, didn't want to drop three in a row before a road trip to West Virginia and then Iowa State.

BIGGEST WINNER (29Dec2017): With seven sub-200 home wins, Texas Tech needs a little more meat on the bone. By blasting Baylor in their Big 12 opener, the Red Raiders began to legitimize their 12-1 overall record. The win was especially handy given that two of their next three games are at Kansas and at Oklahoma.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Texas Tech with a statement in its Big 12 opener -- beating Baylor by 24. The key for the Red Raiders will be playing the same way on the road (0-9 on road in Big 12 last season): they go to Kansas and Oklahoma in the next two weeks, so we'll find out soon.
