Helping Cy shot, deGrom drops ERA to 1.77; Mets top Nats 4-2

Jacob deGrom turned in a record 23rd consecutive quality start, lowered his ERA to 1.77 and boosted his record to .500 as he bids to earn the NL Cy Young Award, allowing one run in seven innings to help the New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals...

The NL Cy Young race isn't officially over yet, but the engraver can start practicing that lowercase d. That's because Mets ace Jacob deGrom was nails again, limiting the Nats to a run on three hits over seven innings. It's his 23rd consecutive quality start, a new single-season record. His ERA now sits at 1.77, well over a half run better than the next closest NL starter (Aaron Nola, 2.44). At this point, it would seemingly take a catastrophic final start for deGrom to not win the Cy Young. Even if he does get torched next time out, he'll probably still win the thing. That's how dominant he's been.
