Here are the top 5 teams that have dead cap space (the team is paying but not on the roster): 1. Atlanta $27.8M 2. Brooklyn $24.4M 3. Milwaukee $7.4M 4. Indiana $6.2M and 5. Detroit $5.3M. The Hawks in 2017-18 also led the NBA with $32.3M in dead money.

With Carmelo Anthony taking a buyout, Atlanta currently has $2.9M in room. The Hawks have agreed to terms with Alex Len, Vince Carter and Daniel Hamilton, giving the team 15 guaranteed contracts but have not signed the three players. Atlanta will go over the cap once all three are signed.

Melo accepts his offseason as 'new norm' in NBA

Carmelo Anthony said it took him a while to accept the fact that he's on the verge of being with his fourth team in a year, saying that the process of being waived or bought out is "the new norm in our society in basketball."

Atlanta will now have 15 players on guaranteed contracts with the Vince Carter and Daniel Hamilton signing. Both players will sign for the minimum exception, Carter at $2.4M (with a $1.5M cap hit) and Hamilton at $1.35M. Before the signing today, Carter had earned $170M since entering the league in 1999. The Hawks previously had agreed to use most of the $4.4M bi-annual exception on Alex Len. Atlanta also has Jaylen Adams and Alex Poythress signed to a Two-Way contract.
