CB Marcus Peters will cost $1.74M towards the salary cap in 2018, and the Rams will presumably pick up his fifth-year option before the May 3 deadline. They entered the offseason with a projected $40 million in cap space and added an impact player to their greatest position of need at minimal cost. It changes everything about their offseason. More money for S Lamarcus Joyner, DT Aaron Donald, WR Sammy Watkins, etc., and flexibility with how they attack the draft and free agency.

The Rams are suddenly in a window of contention, and when that's the case, you can't rely solely on the draft or free agency to fix holes. Sometimes you need to be willing to trade draft picks for players who can contribute right away but are young enough to be affordable. They did it last summer with WR Sammy Watkins, and they did it now with CB Marcus Peters.

Some Marcus Peters-related numbers from ESPN Stats & Info: He easily has the NFL's most interceptions (19) and the highest combination of sacks, forced fumbles and interceptions (25) since 2015. Peters was first-team All-Pro in 2016, and the Rams haven't had a DB make first-team All-Pro since Aeneas Williams in 2001. Peters is the first player since Ed Reed (2002-04) with at least five interceptions in each of his first three seasons.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams are closing in on a trade to acquire CB Marcus Peters from the Chiefs, which would address a desperate area of need for them. Peters, 6 feet and 197 pounds, is a two-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro who's still only 25. Would come in as a starter, and presumably would mean Trumaine Johnson walks.

The Rams announced that they have signed OT Michael Dunn, who spent part of last year's offseason program and preseason with them. Dunn previously started 48 games at Maryland, primarily at LT. He joins Darrell Williams and Cornelius Lucas as depth at tackle, behind Andrew Whitworth and Rob Havenstein.

Rams CB Kayvon Webster, already recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, recently underwent shoulder surgery. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that ILB Mark Barron did the same, but will be ready for training camp. Typical recovery from a ruptured Achilles is about 6-9 months, and Webster hurt himself Dec. 10.

Best Valentine's Day cards from NFL teams

The Patriots, along with several other teams, took to social media on Wednesday to spread some love. Here are some of our favorite digital cards.

In a letter to season-ticket holders, Rams COO Kevin Demoff stated that 2018 season-ticket prices will remain flat. Rams will also offer "more exclusive gameday experiences" and other perks for season -ticket members. Wrote Demoff: "The atmosphere at our playoff game made our fans and city shine on a national stage and in many ways symbolized the beginning of our opportunity together rather than the end of a season."

Opening odds to win next year's Super Bowl for the Rams, per Bovada: 18-to-1, tied for sixth-best with the Falcons, Cowboys and Saints. Patriots, Packers, Eagles, Vikings and Steelers have better odds.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz, on Doug Pederson: "He should've won Coach of the Year. It wasn't lost on us that he didn't win."

Tom Brady, not Todd Gurley, wins MVP. It's the 10th time in the last 11 years that a QB has won the award, and it takes a transcendent season for anybody else to take it. Adrian Peterson rushed for 2,097 yards in 2012, and LaDainian Tomlinson ran for 28 touchdowns in 2006. 2,093 scrimmage yards and 19 touchdowns not enough for Gurley.
