Chris Froome is delighted with his Vuelta lead after extending his advantage to over a minute after stage 15 on Sunday.
The Team Sky rider heads into the third and final race of the final grand tour of the season looking to complete a Tour/Vuelta season double -- a feat only previously achieved by Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault.
"If anyone had said to me this would be the situation going into the second rest day I would have definitely taken that," Froome said of his lead after Sunday's stage.
"I'm really happy with it and looking forward to the time trial."
Froome leads in the race for the red jersey as well as the green sprinter's jersey and the white combined jersey. The Team Sky rider paid tribute to his teammates who have supported Froome in his quest to etch his name in the history books.
"It's an amazing feeling to finish off today and still to be the leader of three competitions -- the red, the white and the green jersey as well," said Froome.
"To have survived a stage like today. I can't thank my teammates enough.
"When [Contador and Lopez] went that was really the danger moment for us to try to control things. As I said, I just can't thank my teammates enough. They were incredible, absolutely incredible today."
