Left guard candidate Chaz Green left practice early because of cramping. He received an IV. Green's health has been an issue since he joined the Cowboys in 2015.

Tough day on the injury front, as two of the top 30 starting pitchers of the past month, Danny Salazar (No. 29 on the Player Rater) and Alex Wood (No. 25), the No. 16 overall player during that same time frame, Joey Gallo, and the No. 30 player for the season, Cody Bellinger, all landed in the DL. Of those, Salazar's is of greatest concern, as it's his third DL stint in the past 13 months and second for an elbow issue. I can't say I'd plan on him contributing to fantasy teams the rest of the way.

The Cowboys opened up Ford Center to fans without tickets and announced a crowd of 7,555. They had 6,052 at Monday's practice. Including their time in Oxnard, this was the second-most attended practice in camp.

Rarely does Tyron Smith whiff on pass protection, but DeMarcus Lawrence just got by him in one on one drills with a hard fake to the inside only to come back outside. That's at least twice Lawrence has used that move on Smith in camp.

There are times in camp where runners just hit a wall when contacted by Jaylon Smith. Darren McFadden just experienced that on a run up the middle.

Cooper Rush gets the first turns with the second-team offense at practice over Kellen Moore in team drills. And Luke McCown gets the third-team work.

The Cowboys considered selecting Cooper Rush late in the draft but opted to try to get him as an undrafted free agent. He received a $5,000 signing bonus, half of what Tony Romo received as an undrafted quarterback in 2003.

Cowboys center Joe Looney, 315 pounds, showed up to practice as Ezekiel Elliott, complete a with the bare midriff that looked nothing like the 228-pound Elliott. Still some fans fell for the joke. Looney showed up with a No. 4 taped over his No. 73 on Monday for Dak Prescott.

Simmons has best Rookie of the Year chances

The No. 1 overall pick in 2016, Ben Simmons missed the entire 2016-17 season with a foot injury. He could bounce back in a big way this season as the current favorite to win Rookie of the Year, according to WestGate Las Vegas SuperBook.

Jason Garrett acknowledged Cooper Rush getting No. 2 quarterback snaps is as much to do with what Rush has done and what Kellen Moore hasn't. "Probably a combination," Garret said. "I thought Kellen has done some really good things and then other times hasn't been as good. And Cooper has taken advantage of his opportunities when he's gotten them." Rush and Moore will continue to split snaps at today's practice with the second-team offense.
