Cowboys will open practice today with a walkthrough in the morning and an afternoon session without pads that will be similar to an OTA practice. Jason Garrett likes to work his team for a few days before putting the pads on to help avoid injury.

Gian Clavell chose to sign a partially guaranteed minimum deal with the Mavs over a similar offer from the Heat after starring for Miami's summer league team. "The Miami Heat gave me a chance this summer and I'll be forever grateful," Clavell said in a text. "That being said I couldn't be more excited to start my NBA journey with the Dallas Mavericks.
