Jason Garrett had a 10-15 minute conversation with Ezekiel Elliott upon the running back's return to The Star. The thrust of the message was to get him back up to the speed of a practice week and not any big picture speech about the actions that led to Elliott missing six games.

With Ezekiel Elliott back from suspension the Cowboys have waived Trey Williams. They had a roster exemption for Elliott's return if they wanted but opted to make the move now. Hey hope to re-sign Williams to the practice squad.

NFL says ref's use of index card within rules

Referee Gene Steratore's decision to use an index card while measuring a key first down Sunday night was "very unusual" but did not violate league rules, an NFL spokesman said Monday.

Not long after his arrival at The Star this morning, Ezekiel Elliott will have a meeting with Jerry Jones, according to the owner and general manager. Sick call is at 10 a.m. CT, which is the earliest Elliott is to arrive. The Cowboys athletic training staff has had indirect communication with Elliott during the six weeks. As a result of those discussions, Jason Garrett has been told the running back has been working out and is in good shape.

Dez: Zeke's return will deliver 'extreme boost'

The Cowboys were upbeat Sunday night at the prospect of having Ezekiel Elliott in the fold after the running back's suspension expires Monday morning. "Just seeing him back will make us play that much harder," Dez Bryant said.

Dez Bryant was on the wrong end of a Gene Steratore ruling in the 2014 playoffs against Green Bay. He was on the right end Sunday when Steratore used a piece of paper to rule Dak Prescott concerted a first down in the fourth quarter. "Game if inches," Bryant said. "I never seen it before but it shows it's a game of inches."
