TCU was a playoff darkhorse in August. The Horned Frogs, at 6-6, are headed to the Liberty bowl to face Georgia after four straight home defeats. On Saturday, in a 30-6 home loss to Kansas State, TCU's streak of 41 straight games with a sack -- tied for the longest nationally and second longest in Big 12 history -- came to an end. Some soul-searching ahead for coach Gary Patterson's program.

Baylor's lead-up to the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl, Dec. 27 against Boise State, looks set to rate as one of the strangest in postseason history. Interim coach Jim Grobe is on his way out. Some of the assistants figure to get new jobs this month. A coaching hire, presumably, will serve as the priority for program that needs desperately to recruit. As for the players, it's safe to wonder about their motivation level after six straight losses.

Deron Williams out-assists Bulls

His 15 assists in the Mavs' win over the Bulls on Saturday were six more than Chicago's entire team. It was the first time a player had more assists than the opposing team since January 2011, when Rajon Rondo's 16 assists with the Celtics were six more than the Lakers, notes the Elias Sports Bureau.

With Detroit leading the high-flying Saints 10-0, note that the Lions have held seven of their first 11 opponents under 21 points. That was tied for the NFL lead with the Cowboys, Seahawks, Ravens, Patriots, Chiefs and Vikings. Which two teams do not belong? It has to be the Cowboys and Lions. Just shows how well they have controlled games offensively, and how their defenses are probably better than anticipated.

Rick Carlisle on Wesley Matthews' season-high-tying 26-point performance in Mavs' win over Bulls: "I am really happy for him. He is our leader right now with Dirk out. He really sets the tone for us in the locker room and on the floor."

Mavs 107, Bulls 82 (final). Dallas (4-15) no longer has the league's worst record. Wesley Matthews (26 points) and Dwight Powell (17) had season-best scoring nights for Dallas, which got 14 assists from Deron Williams. Rajon Rondo: 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 turnovers.

Dwight Powell, who is what Mavs have to show for the trade with Boston two years ago, has a season-high 15 points vs Rajon Rondo's Bulls.

Mavs have been up as much as 18 over the Bulls. Their biggest lead of the season before tonight was 12 over the Lakers.

Rajon Rondo isn't the only Mavs fan favorite visiting Dallas tonight. Ex-ref Bennett Salvatore is also in the house. He shared an awkward laugh with Mark Cuban at halftime.
