Josh Hamilton scratched for child's birth

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was scratched from Friday's lineup after his wife, Katie, went into labor earlier than expected.

Stella Faith Hamilton was born at 6:35 p.m. Friday. Mother and child are said to be doing well. That's four daughters for the Hamiltons as Stella Faith joins Julia Shea, 10; Sierra Elise, 6; and Michaela Grace, 3.

Hamilton, the 2010 AL MVP, was slated to bat third against the Oakland Athletics, but the Rangers changed the lineup a few hours before game time, moving Michael Young to DH and putting Adrian Beltre at cleanup with Craig Gentry inserted in center field for Hamilton.

Hamilton is batting .298 with 19 homers and 80 RBIs in 105 games for the Rangers this season. He's coming off a productive road trip, in which he hit .320 (8-for-25) with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs as the team won two of three at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox and lost two of three in St. Petersburg, Fla., versus the Tampa Bay Rays.
