$156K for Shannon Stone's family

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Tuesday night's online auction to benefit the Shannon Stone Memorial Fund raised $156,375, FOX Sports Southwest announced Thursday.

Fans bid on 18 sports and entertainment packages and made cash donations during the game telecast. Net proceeds will be donated to the fund established by the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation in honor of the Brownwood firefighter who died from injuries suffered in an accidental fall July 7 at Rangers Ballpark.

"The family of Shannon Stone would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all of those who have reached out to us in our time of sorrow," the Stone family said in a statement. "The auction sponsored by FOX Sports Southwest is just another example of the generosity that has come about because people want to help our family.

"We would like to especially thank the Texas Rangers organization, players, and especially Mr. Nolan Ryan for their kindness and generosity shown toward our family. Our family has held the Texas Rangers in high esteem for many years and has nothing but praise for the whole organization."

The high auction bid of $28,500 was recorded for an 18-seat luxury suite at Cowboys Stadium for the Oct. 2 Cowboys game against Detroit.

The Rangers have announced that they are planning on erecting a statue that will honor Stone.

The statue, tentatively named "Rangers Fans," is slated for completion in time for the 2012 season. The full-size bronze statue will be located outside the home plate gate and depict Stone and his 6-year-old son, Cooper, who was at the game with him that night.
