Carlisle mum on who will start at center

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The players acquired by the Dallas Mavericks in the seven-player deal with the Washington Wizards participated in the morning shootaround and will be active for Tuesday night's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson arrived in Dallas on Monday but were not allowed to practice because the trade paperwork had yet to be completed. The players studied film at the hotel after flying with the team to Oklahoma City and will make their debuts for Dallas after about 45 minutes of on-court instruction.

"You've got to try to cover some of your basics, some of your general things," coach Rick Carlisle said. "We're going to have to just keep building on things as we go day by day, but we're going to need these guys to be ready to play tonight."

Butler will start at shooting guard. Carlisle has declined to say whether Haywood or Erick Dampier would be the starting center, but both big men will play significant minutes. Stevenson might not be in the rotation.

"It's still only 24 hours in," Butler said. "It'll take a minute. I think probably within a week or so, I'll really have the plays and sets together."
