Aggies crush FIU in opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Florida International's Garrett
Wittels extended his hitting streak to 55 games, one of the few
mistakes Texas A&M pitcher Barret Loux made as the Aggies beat the
Golden Panthers 17-3 on Friday in the opening game of the Coral
Gables Regional.

Adam Smith, Joe Patterson, Matt Juengel and Brodie Greene all
homered and drove in three runs apiece for the Big 12 champion Aggies (41-19-1).

Greene went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and he also scored three runs.

Kevin Gonzalez also homered for Texas A&M, which got a season-high
20 hits. The 17 runs scored also tied for the team's season-best.

With the exception of the second, the Aggies scored in every inning they batted.

Loux (11-2) gave up just six hits and struck out 10 in eight innings.

Wittels finished 1 for 4 and moved within three games of
matching Robin Ventura's Division I record 58-game hitting streak
with a sixth-inning double for FIU (36-24). Jabari Henry hit a
pinch-hit solo homer for the Golden Panthers.
