Modano won't play vs. Maple Leafs

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Stars center Mike Modano, who cracked a rib in the season opener on Oct. 3, said he's still too sore to play but has targeted Friday for his return.

Modano, who skated with the team Wednesday morning, said he still feels pain when he reaches for pucks and will not play Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"The pain isn't as bad," Modano said. "It's healed down pretty good. It's a good chance Friday."

Winger Jere Lehtinen (intercostal muscle) also skated Wednesday and is listed as day-to-day. Modano said he believes Lehtinen also could return Friday.

The Stars and Maple Leafs play at 7 p.m. CT Wednesday at American Airlines Center.
