U.S. Olympic team looks great

The United States has put together its team, a unit that will battle in the qualifying rounds trying to earn a spot in the Beijing Olympics.

When you look at the make-up of this team, USA basketball's Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski have lived by their words. Both have said from day one they wanted a team that would play together, had chemistry, the ability to go inside-outside and great balance. The team that was assembled did not have only the best players in the NBA. It is not a squad made up solely of superstars.

They have put together all the pieces. I believe that when it is all said and done, they will bring back the glory and the gold where it belongs, the USA!

Take a look and while there might be a change or two before heading the Beijing, there was a purpose in the decision-making process. Recently, two players were added to the team, Michael Redd of the Milwaukee Bucks and Mike Miller of the Memphis Grizzlies.

After studying and analyzing the team, the Colangelo-Krzyzewski duo realized the need for players capable of making the perimeter shot. You don't have to be a genius to realize that has been a concern in recent international play, when the U. S. fell short at the last Olympics and at the World Championships. Redd and Miller are three-point threats that will stretch opposing defenses, forcing them to extend. When that happens, it will open up the driving lanes for Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

Yes my friends, Colangelo and Krzyzewski had a goal and a plan. They executed it, and now the question is, will this dazzling dozen bring back the honor where it belongs. That's right, the place where the game was founded by Mr. Naismith.

Hopefully we can bring back the gold. It is time, and with the guidance and direction of Colangelo and Krzyzewski, we are headed in a positive way. I like this team because it can compete in so many ways. There are inside factors with Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler. There are guards who can handle the rock like Jason Kidd and Deron Williams. There are tough veterans like Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince. I already mentioned the outside threats in Redd and Miller.

This squad also had star power and scoring in Kobe, Lebron and Carmelo Anthony.

There you have it … 12 men, one goal. Hopefully this group will return the glory and enthusiasm to USA basketball. The leadership of Colangelo and Krzyzewski is impressive, and they have built a team with the hopes of capturing the gold in Beijing.
