First weekend full of upsets

March 22, 2004 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

UAB -- UAB shocked Kentucky in a stunning upset 76-75. What a great job by Mike Anderson in just his second year as Blazers' head coach.

Nevada -- Nevada stunned Michigan State and Gonzaga to become the Cinderella story of the tournament. Nevada coach Trent Johnson is another rising star in the coaching profession.

Alabama -- The Crimson Tide stunned No. 1 seed Stanford.

St. Joe's -- Jameer Nelson and company proved they should be a No. 1 seed. Next up for the Hawks is Wake Forest and Chris Paul in a game I'd pay to see.

Detroit Pistons -- The Pistons have won eight in a row and Larry Brown's team has been dominant defensively. Detroit's average margin of victory during the streak is 22 points and they've held opponents to an average of 70 points per game during this run.

Warren Sapp -- The former Buc received a big seven-year deal with the Raiders.

Kentucky and Stanford -- The two No. 1 seeds didn't even make it to the Sweet 16.

Pac-10 -- It only took three days for the conference to be sent packing. Stanford, Washington and Arizona all lost before the Sweet 16.

New York Rangers -- For the seventh straight season the Rangers were eliminated from the playoffs.

Veterans Stadium -- The Vet in Philadelphia was imploded over the weekend.
