Starting Monday, NFL PLAYERS will give fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite NFL stars in three categories -- Emerging Player, Comeback Player and Heart of the Game -- for the first annual PULSE Awards.
Hosted by CBS Sports' James Brown and comedian Jay Mohr, the PULSE Awards honoring excellence on and off the field will be Feb. 3 in Dallas to kick off Super Bowl Weekend. Among the lineup of guests are Deacon Jones, Roger Craig, Eddie George, Bradie James, Felix Jones and Derrick Brooks.
NFL PLAYERS -- the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFL Players Association -- has been honoring players for years but this is the first time they are doing a show during Super Bowl week.
"It's a humbling experience by how much this has grown," said Brown, a three-time Emmy winner. "We raise money for local charities and now we're stepping it up a notch by having the show during Super Bowl week."
Among the nominees for Fan Choice awards are Matt Ryan, Ray Lewis, Michael Vick, Drew Brees, Clay Matthews, Aaron Rodgers, Jared Allen, DeSean Jackson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Sam Bradford, Josh Freeman, Wes Welker and Terrell Owens.
"Outside of the charities, we wanted to recognize players who have big hearts off the field as well as on the field," Brown said. "The players get tremendous personal satisfaction as a recognition from us. It's a team sport, but it shows what sacrifices they make for the good of the team."
