Congrats, Jamaal Charles! Get the ball more!

Sat, Dec 11

Our own Adam Schefter reported Saturday that Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles signed a five-year, $32.5 million extension, with $13 million guaranteed. That's how you celebrate the Christmas before a lockout.

But to fantasy owners, this is nothing more than a slap in the face. If the Chiefs think Charles is worth this much money, why don't they … I don't know, give him the ball?

I took Charles, who's averaging 6.2 yards per carry this season, in the first round of my keeper league this year. And, in the words of sprinter Jon Drummond, I finished the season in "butt-naked last." How does one finish last with the second leading rusher on your team? That sort of thing that happens when he gets 20 carries twice through 12 games.

Fantasy football may not be the same as the real thing, but there's got to be some overlap, right?

It's been so ridiculous that Nick Wright, host of the afternoon drive show on 610 Sports in Kansas City, started the "Free Jamaal Charles" movement. He did it for the locals, but he spoke for the nation. At least one person in every fantasy football league is trying to figure out how Todd Haley got so far in life without being able to count.

Apparently, he can count all the way to 32.5 million. Just not to 20.

I don't get it, either.
