The smugness of soccer star Hope Solo and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy might actually cost them a spot in the finals on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."
On Monday's show, the duo finished at the bottom of the standings out of the remaining four couples, and judge Carrie Ann Inaba called them out for their flip attitude.
After the show, Chmerkovskiy -- who has never won the mirrorball trophy -- told reporters, "I think Carrie Ann has an issue. I don't know what it is.
I think it was a great night. I totally disagree with the scores, but what else is new?"
Solo, who said she was nursing some injuries during her dances, added, "They've wanted to get us off since Day 1."
Solo and Chmerkovskiy combined two dances for 49 points. That was way below leader Ricki Lake/Derek Hough (67), Rob Kardashian/Cheryl Burke (65) and J.R. Martinez/Karina Smiroff (65).
The biggest surprise was how well Kardashian danced, and the judges noticed.
For Burke, it was no surprise. "His confidence is up and once he had that, he felt he could really dance," Burke said, "and then he really got into the show."
And when it comes to judges, Burke said Solo and others should just let it roll off their backs.
"Their job is to judge us. If you don't believe it's constructive, don't believe it," said Burke, a two-time champion. "You have to remind yourself that it's a television show and there is nothing more you can do."
And there might be nothing more Solo and Chmerkovskiy can do except hope her fans vote her into the finals.
