In recent weeks our reader-generated Top 10 lists have focused on Linsanity, on Peytonitis and on Bracketphobia. All worthy topics but also all confined in their scope.
Not this week. This week is for everyone. This week we have a topic that fits every sport and every person connected to sports, including fans. This week we have a topic as American and as classy as the whoopee cushion.
Bumper stickers. More precisely, "Top 10 Sports Bumper Stickers."
Our research indicates bumper stickers began in the 1930s, immediately after Henry Ford invented bumpers because drivers had a tendency to bump into each other. Then the bumper sticker boomed in 1946 when someone probably made a lab mistake and discovered they had invented sticky paper that would stay on a bumper without string or wire.
So you know what we want. Be somewhat concise as your witticisms must, you know, fit on a bumper. Send your clever ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org -- including your first name, initial of your last name and your location. If you think you need to identify for whose car the sticker is meant, do so. After all, wouldn't LeBron James, Tim Tebow and others love to have a bumper sticker of their own?
The stickers are everywhere. Here are a few recently seen:
• "I survived the lockout: 3-11-11---7-25-11"
• "If you are reading this, you are losing"
• "Women want me, fish fear me"
• And my personal favorite: "Rudy was offsides."
Except for the last one, the others lack one of our favorite ingredients for the lists: Sarcasm. We love sarcasm. It gives you an edge. You have until noon Wednesday to submit your gems. The best will be part of the list Thursday.
Hey, the BCS? Surely you can come up with a bumper sticker that rips the BCS? Put your feverish minds to work now.
