Page 2's Mr. and Miss Bracket 2006 contest is officially over.

College students donned their finest outfits and shared their enthusiasm and school spirit in our cross-country search for the ultimate college basketball fan. There were a slew of photos and essays explaining why each candidate should be selected as his or her campus favorite.

Page 2 staffers Jim Caple and Mary Buckheit had some memorable moments while holding on-campus tryouts at Gonzaga, UCLA, Tennessee and UConn.

And although we couldn't make it to every campus or post all of the online entries, we were able to narrow the list down to the top finalists, based on the results of voter polls and our in-house selection committee.

Mr. Bracket 2006
Congratulations David Orges

In his own words: Outrageous wouldn't even begin to describe my fanship! I was awarded the title of Louisiana Tech's most outrageous fan this year by WAC officials. I just got in from my ROAD trip to the WAC tourney in RENO! A 79-hour drive! Our teams love me so much that they helped finance part of my trip! I'd do anything for my Dawgs and Techsters! I founded The Blue, our campus spirit organization. Sic 'em Dawgs!

Miss Bracket 2006
Congratulations Jennifer Owsiany

In her own words: I'm president of PSU's Nittwits. With PSU not being a basketball school, I had several goals: Camp out, rush the court and increase game attendance. We were busted by cops twice for camping out and using a bullhorn out my car window to get people to attend games. After the win against Illinois, we met the team at the airport and followed the bus to continue celebrating. With recruiting, we increased membership 75 percent. GO STATE!
