The Zimbabwean cricketer lit the cricket pitch on fire. Literally. In 2006, Vermeulen was charged with burning down a local cricket academy by setting it on fire with a lighter. Three years before, he snapped after losing his temper during a match in England, hurling a ball into the crowd and almost hitting a little girl. He also wielded a boundary spike and nearly attacked the crowd before being restrained by teammates. He was banned for 10 years from England. In 2008, he rebuilt the academy he had burned down and also got proper medical help for his anger, which was a by-product of two fractured skulls suffered in cricket.
