Diving Save

"The stereotypical goalkeeper is 6'5", tall and lanky. I'm 5'9". but I'm explosive. and I've worked on making myself better than everyone else at playing with my feet, reading the play and stopping the ball. Say the ball is passed across the top of the 18-yard box before a shot. I can't just dive from where I am; I have to get across the goal and extend my body. That's why i focus on having quick feet. "As a keeper, you're taught never to be on your line, because the more you step out, the smaller the goal seems. But I don't play too high, because players could chip it over me. So yeah, my style is different. But if I'm saving the ball, who cares if I'm not 6'5". as told to Doug McIntyre
