Jets quarterback Joe Namath is fitted for his famous mink coat by Hy Rifkin on Aug. 15, 1968. The double-breasted overcoat, valued at an estimated $5,000 became an NFL fad thanks to Namath, who wore the full-length coat on the sideline. Various players adopted the habit after him, until the NFL banned the fashion choice, requiring team personnel to wear league-approved apparel. Namath played for 13 NFL seasons, famously winning one Super Bowl -- in the greatest upset in the history of the event.
