SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Cole McKenzie hit a grand slam in a six-run fourth inning and Billings Big Sky became the first Montana team to advance to the Little League Baseball World Series, beating Bend, Ore., South 7-1 on Saturday in the Northwest Region final.
McKenzie also had an RBI single in the first inning and finished 3-for-3. The shortstop was 13-for-19 with three homers and 11 RBIs in the tournament.
Starter Patrick Zimmer went five innings, allowing four hits and one run -- giving up Cal Waterman's leadoff homer in the sixth inning. Zimmer won for the second time in the tournament.
Billings earned its spot in the championship game with a 6-2 victory over Lewiston, Idaho.
Billings will open World Series play Aug. 18 in South Williamsport, Pa., against the Midwest champion.
