Once the smoke clears from the season-opening Daytona 500, the real season begins in essence in Arizona.

Nestled in the desert foothills of the Estrella Mountains, Phoenix International Raceway is one of the more scenic tracks on the NASCAR circuit and includes a general admission hillside seating area that overlooks the 1-mile oval.

NASCAR's first stop in the Valley of the Sun came Feb. 27 this season with the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500, just one week after the Daytona 500. NASCAR's second stop in the desert is the penultimate race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup -- the Kobalt Tools 500, on Sunday.

As fans might expect, "Chamber of Commerce" weather is one of the biggest assets at Phoenix International Raceway. Not too hot. Not too cold. Just right for racing in April and November.
