Mavericks sign first-round pick Maurice Ager
DALLAS - Maurice Ager is ready to start a busy summer.
Selected 28th overall in Wednesday's NBA draft, Ager signed his rookie contract with the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.
Under the rookie salary scale, Ager will make $1.56 million in the first two years of the deal that runs through 2007-08. The Mavericks hold club options for the next two years of the contract.
Ager will participate for the Mavs in both the Las Vegas and Rocky Mountain Summer Leagues. The Las Vegas league starts Thursday.
The 6-5, 202-pound Ager has a build similar to long-time Maverick Michael Finley but will have trouble cracking Dallas' deep rotation. The Mavs came within two wins last season of capturing their first NBA championship.
Ager ended his career fourth on Michigan State's all-time list in 3-pointers made (202) and 11th in scoring with 1,554 points.
