Alabama A&M, Grambling picked for SWAC rematch
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Alabama A&M and Grambling State will meet for the Southwestern Athletic Conference title again, according to balloting Friday among league coaches and sports information directors at media days.
West Division champion Grambling beat the Bulldogs 30-19 in last year's championship game.
In the East Division, Alabama A&M received 67 points, while Alcorn State and Jackson State had 56 points each.
Mississippi Valley State and Alabama State rounded out the division. The Hornets' program is mired in uncertainty after athletic director Richard Cosby called the program "out of control" upon forwarding the results of an internal investigation to the NCAA.
Cosby resigned on Thursday after seven months on the job, returning to Stillman College.
In the West, Grambling State picked up 79 points, followed by Southern (67), Texas Southern (48), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (27) and Prairie View A&M (23).
Teams received five points for first place down to one for fifth.
