SEC women's basketball returning to Alltel
LITTLE ROCK -- The Southeastern Conference women's basketball tournament will return to Alltel Arena in 2006, officials said.
An official announcement was expected Thursday.
The tournament also is expected to be held at Alltel in North Little Rock for another year between 2006 and 2010, local officials have said.
The success of the tournament in March, the first held west of the Mississippi River, helped Southeastern Conference officials decide to choose Little Rock for at least two years, Camie Boggess, chairman of the Central Arkansas Sports Commission board, said earlier this summer.
Jason Fowler of Alltel Arena talked Wednesday about the SEC tournament coming in 2006, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported, and Boggess said the group has known the date since mid-August but was waiting for the SEC to announce it.
