A's claim infielder Scutaro and outfielder Watson off waivers

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics claimed infielder Marco Scutaro and outfielder Matt Watson off waivers from the New York Mets on Thursday.

Oakland also designated left-hander John Halama and catcher Mark Johnson for assignment.

Scutaro hit .213 with two home runs and six RBIss in 48 games with New York this season. He played second base and shortstop in two separate stints with the Mets.

Watson made his major league debut with New York in 2003 after a September callup and batted .174 with two RBIss in 15 games. He batted .295 at Triple-A Norfolk.

Halama was 3-5 with a 4.22 ERA in 35 games, including 13 starts, for the A's in 2003 while Johnson appeared in 13 games with Oakland and hit .111.
