INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts running back Edgerrin James and left tackle Tarik Glenn were put on the inactive list for Sunday's game against Carolina.

James missed the last two games with a sore back. He practiced Wednesday and Thursday but missed workouts Friday and Saturday because of flulike symptoms.

Glenn, who has a strained ligament in his left knee, missed a start for the first time as a professional. He had started 101 consecutive games since the Colts drafted him in the first round in 1997.

Also inactive for Sunday's game were starting right tackle Ryan Diem and backup running back Dominic Rhodes. Diem has an injured left ankle and missed a third straight game. Rhodes has a sore right knee.

The Colts also waived No. 3 quarterback Cory Sauter and activated rookie tackle Jim Newton from the practice squad.

Carolina defensive tackle Brentson Buckner also was placed on the inactive list with a sore left knee.
