Penguins G Fleury named NHL Rookie of the Month

NEW YORK - Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, the first overall pick in June's NHL draft, on Tuesday was named Rookie of the Month for October.

Just 18, Fleury posted a 2-2-2 record with one shutout, a 1.96 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage in six games.

Fleury was the NHL's busiest goaltender in the season's first month as he faced 211 shots. He registered his first career victory by outplaying six-time Vezina Trophy winner Dominik Hasek in a win over Detroit on October 18.

In his final game of the month on Ocotber 30, Fleury recorded his first career shutout, making 20 saves in a 1-0 victory at Chicago.

Fleury edged center Peter Bergeron and goaltender Andrew Raycroft of the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Joni Pitkanen for the award.
