Raiders sign QB Rob Johnson, release RB-KR Jenkins
Terms were not disclosed.
With Rich Gannon out with a torn labrum and Marques Tuiasosopo going down with a knee injury in Sunday's loss at Detroit, the Raiders were left with Rick Mirer, whose appearance against the Lions was his first since the 2000 season.
Rob Johnson signed with Washington as a free agent last March but appeared in just two games for the Redskins, completing 5-of-7 passes for 39 yards while getting sacked three times.
After breaking several passing records at Southern California, Rob Johnson was drafted by Jacksonville, where he saw action in just six games over three seasons. He moved on to Buffalo and made 26 starts in four seasons before joining Tampa Bay in 2002.
To clear a roster spot, the Raiders released running back-kick returner Ronney Jenkins.
One season after reaching the Super Bowl, Oakland has lost four straight and is in third place in the AFC West, six games behind front-running Kansas City.
