VILNIUS, Lithuania -- The Lithuanian Athletics Federation says European marathon champion Zivile Balciunaite has been suspended from competition pending the completion of a probe into her positive doping test.
Balciunaite tested positive for excessive levels of testosterone and epitestosterone in July. The Lithuanian Athletics Federation said Thursday that she would be banned from any sports competitions for the remainder of the investigation.
The 31-year-old Balciunaite denies taking any illegal substances and blames the positive result on a drug prescribed by her gynecologist.
If found guilty, Balciunaite could be banned for two years.
