Iotapa wins Santa Maria Stakes at Santa Anita
ARCADIA, Calif. -- Iotapa beat Let Faith Arise by 1 3/4 lengths Saturday in the $200,000 Santa Maria Stakes at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Joe Talamo, the 4-year-old filly ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.30 and paid $6.40, $3.60 and $2.80 for her fourth victory in eight starts.
"We were going pretty slow and that was kind of our plan, to take her to the lead, Talamo said. "She showed a lot of class today. ... She's never been worse than third and she's run some great races. Looking for a big year from her."
Let Faith Arise returned $3.60 and $2.60, and Stanwyk paid $3.20 to show.
The win, worth $120,000, increasing Iotapa's earnings to $363,490.
Alsoe, On the Backstreets rallied to win the $75,000 Sweet Life Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by 2 1/4 lengths.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, On the Backstreets ran 6½ furlongs in 1:12:44 and paid $5.80, $3.20 and $2.60.
Famous Alice returned $3.40 and $2.80, and Smoove paid $4.40 to show.
The win, worth, $46,260, raised On the Backstreets' earnings to $118,510.
