DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers and left-handed reliever Tom Gorzelanny have agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract.

The 32-year-old Gorzelanny had a 0.86 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 23 appearances for Milwaukee last year. He began the season on the disabled list after offseason left-shoulder surgery.

Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in 2003, Gorzelanny has played parts of 10 seasons with the Pirates (2005-09), Chicago Cubs (2009-10), Washington Nationals (2011-12) and Brewers (2013-14). Overall, he is 47-51 with a 4.27 ERA and 674 strikeouts in 259 career appearances that include 121 starts.

To make room for Gorzelanny on the roster Tuesday, the Tigers designated right-handed pitcher Luke Putkonen for assignment.
