Nova, Yankees agree to $3.3 million, 1-year contract
NEW YORK -- Ivan Nova and the New York Yankees have agreed to a $3.3 million, one-year contract, the same salary the pitcher earned when he missed most of the 2014 season because of a torn elbow ligament.
Nova's salary is not guaranteed under the agreement announced Wednesday, a day after he was among four Yankees to file for salary arbitration.
Nova injured his right elbow April 19 during a game against Tampa Bay and had surgery 10 days later. He is expected to return to the Yankees' rotation in May or June.
A 28-year-old right-hander, Nova is 40-22 in parts of five major league seasons. He would be eligible for free agency after the 2016 season.
