Cubs sign LHP Rusch, IF Jackson to minor-league contracts

MESA, Arizona -- The Chicago Cubs signed pitcher Glendon Rusch and infielder Damian Jackson to minor-league contracts on Thursday and assigned them to Triple-A Iowa of the Pacific Coast League.

Rusch, 29, has a career record of 42-76 with a 5.11 ERA in 193 games, including 167 starts, in a seven-year career with Kansas City, the New York Mets and Milwaukee. He was a non-roster invitee to the Texas Rangers' major league camp this spring but failed to make the team.

Jackson, 30, has served as a utility infielder for five major league teams and has a career .246 average in 621 games. He was a non-roster invitee to the Colorado Rockies' spring training camp but was released on Sunday.
