Pawlenty proclaims October as ``Minnesota Twins Month''
ST. PAUL -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty has proclaimed the month of October as Minnesota Twins Month, as he urged Minnesotans to wave their Homer Hankies and support the team throughout the playoffs.
In his proclamation, the governor said the Twins have provided entertainment for Minnesotans since 1961, and he noted their World Championships in 1987 and 1991.
He also wrote: "The Minnesota Twins and their organization have been outstanding role models for the people of Minnesota," and he mentioned that the team has assisted community organizations that focus on nonprofit groups and education programs in the state.
The Twins play the New York Yankees on Tuesday in game one of the American League Division series.
