Marte back to Buffalo; Indians recall lefty for Red Sox series
Marte spent time on the disabled list with a hamstring injury earlier this season. He's batted just .180 (9-for-50) in 16 games for Cleveland, and has been used off the bench since returning from the DL.
While Marte was out, the Indians moved former everyday third baseman Casey Blake from right field back to his old position. Cleveland has been one of the AL's best teams since and is coming off a three-game sweep of Detroit.
Marte was acquired in 2006 in the trade that sent center fielder Coco Crisp to the Red Sox. The 23-year-old started last season with Buffalo and spent two months with the Indians, batting .226 in 50 games.
Perez went 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA at Buffalo in seven starts. He pitched three innings while spending three days with Cleveland earlier this month. He and Aaron Fultz give Indians manager Eric Wedge two lefty options for late-inning matchups.
