CINCINNATI -- The Toronto Blue Jays sent minor league
pitcher Justin James to Cincinnati on Friday, completing a trade
for outfielder Buck Coats earlier this week.
The Reds traded Coats on Wednesday for a player to be named or
cash. Cincinnati designated Coats for assignment to the minors on
Nov. 28 after signing free agent closer Francisco Cordero.
The 25-year-old Coats played in 20 games for the Reds last
season after they claimed him off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on
Aug. 28. He batted .206 with two RBIs for Cincinnati.
The 26-year-old James has spent all five of his professional
seasons in the Blue Jays' system. The righty was a combined 3-5
with two saves and a 3.89 ERA for Double-A New Hampshire and
Triple-A Oklahoma City this season.
