TORONTO -- The Blue Jays have placed infielder Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list and recalled shortstop Ryan Goins from Triple-A Buffalo.

The moves were made Thursday before Toronto played the New York Yankees.

Izturis was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 21 with a sprained left ankle. He was lifted from the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Yankee Stadium and sat out Wednesday night.

Izturis is batting .236 with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 107 games with Toronto this season.

The 25-year-old Goins was hitting .257 with six home runs and 46 RBIs in 111 games with Buffalo. The left-handed hitter is in his fifth season of professional ball after being selected in the fourth round of the 2009 draft by Toronto.

Goins led the Double-A Eastern League in hits last year with 158.
