La Tech hires offensive, defensive coordinators
RUSTON, La. -- Frank Scelfo, who was Tulane's offensive coordinator when his brother Chris was coach, is moving to Louisiana Tech.
Bulldog coach Derek Dooley announced Wednesday that he has hired Scelfo, pending what is usually routine approval by the Louisiana Tech Athletic Council and the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.
"Frank has consistently produced some of the most exciting and productive offenses and quarterback play in the country." Dooley said. "The fact that he is a native of Louisiana and is well-known and respected around the state make him a great fit for Louisiana Tech."
Frank Scelfo spent the past 11 seasons on the Tulane staff, and has been the Green Wave's offensive coordinator since 1999.
Chris Scelfo, who was fired after Tulane finished 4-8 this season, had a 37-57 record in eight years there.
Dooley also named Tommy Spangler as the Bulldogs' new defensive coordinator. Spangler spent the past 10 seasons at Division II Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., where he served as the head coach since 2001.
Spangler's defense ranked first in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring defense (13.2 ppg) and total defense (233.5 ypg) en route to a 7-4 recrod.
