NEW ORLEANS - The Deuce won't be loose for the New Orleans Saints anytime soon.

Deuce McAllister, the Saints' star running back and best offensive player, is expected to miss five to six weeks due to a high right ankle sprain.

McAllister was injured on a running play on the Saints' first possession in Sunday's 30-27 win over San Francisco. He lost a fumble on the play in which he was tackled by Bryant Young.

Without McAllister, Aaron Stecker is expected to take over as the featured back. He carried 15 times for 41 yards against the Niners.

Losing McAllister is a significant blow to the Saints. He finished second in the NFC in rushing last season when he gained 1,641 yards to go along with eight touchdowns.

A 2001 first-round pick out of Mississippi, McAllister took over for Ricky Williams as the Saints' featured back in 2002 when Williams was traded to the Miami Dolphins and rushed for 1,388 yards and 13 touchdowns.
