ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills signed tight end Derek Schouman off the practice squad after releasing backup defensive tackle Tim Anderson on Saturday.

Schouman was Buffalo's seventh-round pick out of Boise State in the April draft.

Anderson, Buffalo's third-round pick out of Ohio State in 2004, didn't quite fit the Bills' defensive scheme, which puts an emphasis on agile interior lineman.

Anderson made only four tackles in four games this year, and played in 39 career games with 17 starts during four seasons in Buffalo.

Schouman's promotion was partly because of the decision to move fourth-string tight end Matt Murphy to offensive tackle this week. The Bills do not have a fullback on their roster, using their tight end as an H-back.
